How I Mastered Cloth Diapering (Revisited)

I first wrote about how I mastered cloth diapering back in 2011. Looking at the post now makes me laugh out loud. At the time it was the only way cloth diapering was manageable unless I wanted to use old school safety pins and rubber pants. Now, I use all-in-one cloth diapers from Thirsties which makes cloth diapering a breeze. I also use biodegradable diaper liners so I can just toss the mess in the toilet and flush. Because my boys are heavy wetters I also use organic prefold cloth diapers. I simply fold them into a rectangle shape and slide them in the front panel. For bedtime I use 2 prefold cloth diapers.

As for cleanup, (like I said above) I toss the messy diaper liners in the toilet and then put all the prefolds and diapers in pail with a top. Each day I toss the soiled diapers in the washer with Charlie's Soap, and set on sanitize. Once they are done I hang the diapers to dry. (Putting them in the dryer will make them disintegrate over time). It is that easy! I do not waste time prewashing or soaking - that step is totally not needed. If you have tough stains, the sun is an amazing bleaching agent and usually only takes a few hours to see results. Just place the stains face up in the sun.

If you are thinking about taking the plunge into the cloth diapering world this is the way to go. It is quick, easy, and cost-effective. If you are looking for other options checkout this post by Kitchen Stewardship.

This is the formula that works for me (click on images to purchase):
